    Hi Larry,
Just recently, after taking the Ancestry DNA test, I found a Fleming relative. He is my 4th or 5th cousin from the Fleming family in the Hunterdon, Morris, or Somerset area of New Jersey. After tracing each generation back, it is possible that his father was William, Samuel or Andrew, as they were all mature adult males signing petitions around 1780. I was in touch with the late Ken Gibbons many years ago and know that he had searched far and wide for the ancestors of Lawrence Carlysle Fleming. I think we can rule out Jacob as his father. Do you know if court records were searched in the counties of these three men? Lawrence was my 4th G-grandfather. I am in Doylestown, PA, part time and can look in the New Jersey records.

All very interesting, Robyn. First, I am sorry to hear about the death of Ken Gibbons in 2013 and will add him to a new section of my site called “Cousins Corner-In Memoriam.” Second, I will qualify the Vitals for Lawrence, expressing the further possibilities of his parentage. Third, I hope someone will join you in searching county records in New Jersey for more information. I recently wrote an article regarding what were called “Jersey Settlements” in Western PA and am amazed at the number of family who began in NJ before moving west. Finally, thank you for your investment in the DNA test and your desire to dig deeper in our common ancestry. Regards. Your cousin Larry

        Hi Larry,
Finally digging into family research again. A bit of an update on the Lawrence C Fleming front. A gentleman (Steven Howell) on Find A Grave has an extensive list of the Fleming family from William, Thomas and Andrew Fleming. Apparently sons of a John Fleming b.1743 from Cookstown Ireland. Looks like Thomas b. 1760 could very well be the father of Lawrence. William and Andrew are too young.
Hope all is well with you. Cousin Robyn
