*Possibly sister of Elizabeth K. Brown (1824-1916), who was wife of Dowling Norris (1829-1858) – parents of my great grandparents, Robert and Annie Sim(s) Norris Gray. This was probably a case of third generation cousins marrying when my grandfather, Paul Barton Gray (1892-1977), Elizabeth Brown’s grandson, married Bertha Ione Campbell (1893-1980), Annie Brown’s granddaughter. Notice that Elizabeth and Annie each have the middle initial “K,” which we believe stood for Katarina (German for Katherine).

      Dear Dee,
You wrote about a year ago, and since then I have researched your Margaret Hoffman of NJ only to find that she is of a different family than my George and Annie Hoffman of Allegheny Co., PA. Many public trees on Ancestry.com confirm my findings. Unfortunately, the many George Hoffman descendants seem to have similar names, which makes genealogy very confusing. Please write if I can answer questions. Thanks for putting me onto this research.

Hello, My g-g-grandfather was Michael J Hoffman born 1844 in Germany. He
married Elizabeth Krause born 1847 in Germany. They immigrated to Warren
PA about 1873. I cannot find much information on them. Are these people
also associated with your family tree? I cannot find the name of a town in
Germany where they came from. One document states Bavaria, as you know is
a large area. Any suggestions on where I should look?

    Thanks so much,
    Kim

    Hi Kim,
I have very little on my maternal Hoffmans except whom I believe to be the first and last of the siblings, with 20 years and a whole state between them. (See Hoffman Vitals.) Your 1844 Micheal would work, although Warren is over 100 miles from father George’s home near Pittsburgh. One great irony is that my Wife’s mother was a Krause from Somerset Co. and MAryland, and Prussia (farther north than Bavaria. There is a Krause Auto Sales in Oberamergau in Bavaria.). Have you read that material on my page?
    Thanks,
    Larry
