Research/Writing in Progress: Crawford

(Last updated 12/26/15)

Research questions:

DID THE CRAWFORDS & CAMPBELLS OF INDIANA & ALLEGHENY CO’S KNOW EACH OTHER IN THE OLD WORLD? WHERE DID JAMES & SARAH COME FROM?

WAS OUR JAMES RELATED TO THE FOUNDER OF BLAIRSVILLE? WHAT ABOUT ALL THE OTHER NOTABLE CRAWFORDS OF INDIANA & WESTMORELAND CO’S?

WAS THERE A GENERATION BETWEEN JAMES & SARAH AND MARY, WIFE OF THOMAS CAMPBELL? WHO WAS THE CONSORT OF SARAH? WILSON OR WILLIAM? BURIED AT OLD PINE CREEK CEMETERY, FOX CHAPEL.

Newly discovered resources:

CALDWELL’S TREASURES OF THE PAST (GOOGLE) & OTHER INDIANA CO. BOOKS.

Articles begun:

NONE

Speculation:

OUR CRAWFORDS OF INDIANA COUNTY KNEW THEIR NAMESAKES IN THE OLD WORLD AND WERE RELATED TO SOME OF THEM.

Send your questions, corrections, additions, and ideas to me, pearce@atlanticbb.net, for inclusion and full credit here and later, when future articles are posted.

Re: Sarah Crawford (Born 1742 – Died 12-21-1823). She was most likely from Eastern PA. Sarah married Anthony Noble and they had a daughter, Sarah Noble (B. 1770). Sarah Noble married John Clopper and they had a son, John Crawford Clopper (B. 9-27-1793 Died: 9-28-1825 in Courtland, Alabama). John Crawford Clopper married Anna Marie Kauck (B. 7-10-1776 Phila.) in Philadelphia on Apr. 18, 1816.

Does any of this sound familiar?? I have not been able to find a single thing on Sarah Crawford and Anthony Noble (who their parents were, etc. and where they were actually born). I have looked at the LDS site and of course Ancestry, Rootsweb, etc.

    Any ideas?? Thanks, Marianne

      Hi Marianne,
Your dates certainly coincide with my Crawfords. Unfortunately, this is a common (and even prominent) name for the Scots-Irish in Pennsylvania, and our family moved West to Westmoreland and Indiana Counties before settling in Allegheny. I’ll be watching for your names and dates as I do further research. Please stay in touch and share any new findings. Thanks for your interest,
      Larry
