What a useful tool, having come out of such a humble beginning. I don\u2019t know how else I could keep up with the thoughts and activities of family around the country. Many of our relatives have <i>private individual<\/i> Facebook pages that will probably require membership and a \u201cFriend\u201d request, if you\u2019re interested, but here we are concentrating only on what we consider the very best <i>public<\/i> <i>community<\/i> spaces as a more contemporary compliment to our family history. Please take a moment to view the beautiful pictures and listen in on the interesting conversations at these sites:\u00a0 local organizations and activities, churches, schools, libraries, museums, and societies. Don\u2019t forget to click on the <i>links<\/i> inside each Facebook page.\u00a0 Think of this information as the answer to the question genealogists might logically ask about their subjects\u2019 communities: \u201cWhere are they and what are they doing\u00a0 now?\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>As this section is ever-expanding, do send me new discoveries via the comment block below. His sons\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/e-gen.info\/?page_id=3608\">&#8220;Yost&#8221; (1748-1811)<\/a> and Jeremiah came from Lancaster County to the mountains of West central Pennsylvania in 1784, some of the first Europeans to settle in &#8220;Indian Territory.&#8221; Today&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Quemahoning_Township,_Somerset_County,_Pennsylvania\">Quemahoning Township<\/a> was then called <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stonycreek_Township,_Somerset_County,_Pennsylvania\">Stonycreek<\/a> and was part of Bedford County, later to become Somerset. This was the hub of civilization for early settlers along the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Forbes_Road\">Forbes Road<\/a>\u00a0with stores, churches, and a post office. The Miller families visited here frequently.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>*\u00a0<em>Stoystown<\/em><\/strong><em>, Somerset County, PA &#8211;\u00a0<\/em>Some original buildings still stand<br \/>\n<span class=\"s2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/stoystown.pa\">https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/stoystown.pa<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Stoystown-Historical-Society\/1488561321465419\">https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Stoystown-Historical-Society\/1488561321465419<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>BOSWELL\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211; Founded at the site of a 1904 coal mine, this small borough still displays many of the original homes, although the businesses have given way to chain stores.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>* Boswell\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><em>Historical Society &#8211;\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Boswell,_Pennsylvania\">Area history complete<\/a> with a small museum &amp; park<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pg\/Boswell-Area-Historical-Society-736018239808373\/posts\/\">https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pg\/Boswell-Area-Historical-Society-736018239808373\/posts\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Orenda-Park\/149203895215784\">https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Orenda-Park\/149203895215784<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s1\"><strong>CONEMAUGH TOWNSHIP<\/strong> &#8211; The land between Quemahoning and the City of Johnstown was <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Conemaugh_Township,_Somerset_County,_Pennsylvania\">home to many Amish-Mennonites<\/a> coming west from <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Berks_County,_Pennsylvania\">Berks County.<\/a> Still home to many farms, it&#8217;s now split by four-lane 219, serving Somerset &amp; Cambria Co&#8217;s.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>* Conemaugh Twp\u00a0<\/strong>Area Historical Soc. &#8211;\u00a0<\/em>See artifacts, documents, &amp; photographs<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ConemaughTownshipAreaHistoricalSociety\/\"><span class=\"s1\">https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ConemaughTownshipAreaHistoricalSociety\/<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>SOMERSET<\/strong> &#8211; This <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Somerset,_Pennsylvania\">small borough<\/a>\u00a0has had several names over the years but now gives her new name to the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Somerset_County,_Pennsylvania\">county\u00a0<\/a>where all the Miller family legal business was done.
