These award winners are nominated by graduate students and chosen by their colleges.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/e-gen.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/images-1.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6941 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/e-gen.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/images-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/e-gen.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/images-1.jpeg 200w, https:\/\/e-gen.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/images-1-150x150.jpeg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a title=\"link to the college website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.caus.vt.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">College of Architecture and Urban Studies<\/a>:<br \/>\n<strong>Associate Professor Annie Pearce<\/strong>,\u00a0<a title=\"Link to Building Construction\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bc.vt.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Building Construction<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Annie Pearce\u2019s students wrote that she recognizes the importance of balancing work and home life with the demands of graduate education. Maria Sexton, writing on behalf of the Sustainable Facilities &amp; Infrastructure Lab, said Pearce easily works with students across disciplines and graduate programs. \u201cWhat makes Dr. Pearce stand out from other mentors is her genuine appreciation for advancing knowledge and her willingness to help any student, whether she holds the role of their advisor, professor, or just a friendly face within the department. She has a unique talent for instilling a sense of self-efficacy within her students and makes a sincere effort to prepare her students as successful professionals.\u201d She added that Pearce also models patience with her students. \u201cShe understands how difficult life can be for graduate students and makes sure that they have whatever types of support their current situation requires, including structure, leniency, and verbal kicks in the pants.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alumnus Anurag Mantha echoed Sexton: \u201cDr. Pearce\u2019s style of mentorship and advising focuses on listening to her students and helping them thrive in whichever path they choose.&#8221;<a href=\"https:\/\/e-gen.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/IDR.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-11019\" src=\"https:\/\/e-gen.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/IDR-300x165.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"165\" srcset=\"https:\/\/e-gen.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/IDR-300x165.png 300w, https:\/\/e-gen.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/IDR-150x82.png 150w, https:\/\/e-gen.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/IDR.png 437w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Pearce was also inducted as a new member into the <a href=\"https:\/\/graduateschool.vt.edu\/academics\/programs\/interdisciplinary-graduate-education\/iota-delta-rho-honor-society.html\">Iota Delta Rho Interdisciplinary Honor Society<\/a>, founded in 2011 as the world&#8217;s first such research organization.
