Vitals: James (and wife unknown) Norris

James (c. 1715-? ) County Derry, Northern Ireland (parents unknown although one scholar suggests his father as a Captain Norris* born around 1690). We have no information on his wife.

Children:

1. John (1746 – )

2. William (1750 – )

3. James, Jr. (1755 – )

4. Robert, Sr. (1761-1845) b. Castle Dawson, Derry; West Deer Twp., Allegheny Co., PA (m. Catherine or Martha Dowling – our line)

* Other spellings suggest Norman or English origins: de Noreis, Noyers, Norreys, Nourse, etc. The name is probably Scandanavian, meaning “North.” County Armaugh contains the villages of Port Norris and Mount Norris.
